WORLD’S BEST TEACHER (2)

WORLD’S BEST TEACHER (2)

Asked what makes a good teacher, William Arthur Ward wrote:

‘The mediocre teacher, tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.’

The very best teachers are not the ones who just tell you what they think you need to know. They are the ones who explain it and demonstrate in such a way that it leaves you utterly inspired.

This is what Jesus did for His disciples (remember, the word disciple literally means ‘learner’ or ‘student’). In Jesus’ day, disciples not only learned from listening to a rabbi, but also by observing and experiencing his way of life from every angle.

In the same way, Jesus invited His twelve friends into (almost) every part of his life for three years. They knew Him intimately. It meant that when the time finally came, they were ready. He could say to them, ‘[you] will do the same works I have done, and even greater’ (John 14:12 NLT).

True discipleship is a 360-degree thing.

There should be people you are learning from (those a little further along than you), people you are learning with (those of a similar level of maturity to you), and people who are learning from youThe Spirit will reveal the life of God to you in different ways through all of these relationships.

‘The Spirit will … make it known to you’ John 16:15 NIV
