‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given…’ Matthew 25:29 NLT

For those who think attitude and work ethic don’t have anything to do with their faith, Jesus said something that ought to make us all sit up and take notice:

‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.’

How does working as if God is on the job with you affect what you do – or don’t do?

Procrastination. Lazy days that turn into weeks. And yeah, time on Facebook (where the best minds of the generation spend hours clicking refresh and posting selfies) These things all matter. Ouch.

Well, your salvation doesn’t hinge on it (that hinges on… er, you believing in Jesus). A day’s youtube-browsing won’t rewrite your eternal destiny, but make a habit of it and you genuinely might be risking God’s best for your life right here on earth. Get it?

There’s a whole world out there, and He has a heart and a plan for it (which may just involve you!)

If you slack off in the small things, God isn’t going to trust you with big things. Of course, He won’t give you a task that’s bigger than what you’re capable of.

But if you work as if God is on the job with you and you are faithful in using the gifts He’s given you, you’ll go to places only He can take you.

What now?

Ask a generally truthful (and well-meaning…) friend to give an honest assessment of you. What do you think needs to change? Ask them what they think you’re good at. Where could you make improvements?
