Thirteen…Going on Thirty (2)

Thirteen…Going on Thirty (2)

Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love.

You will feel and behave like a child sometimes, and like an adult at other times. Don’t worry; you will become a man (or woman), and then you will remain an adult!

In the meantime, to help in your transition, look for adults who:

1) Are rational, not reactive.

You need a grown-up to help you be clear-minded and self-controlled. Being young means your emotions sometimes will get the best of you. It’s important to have someone help you think things through.

2) Will act like parents, not friends or “barkadas”.

You need someone ‘in charge’ to shepherd you toward maturity.

Sure you want your freedom, but you also need someone to calm the storm in you—the lighthouse to guide you. You don’t need people who will just push you into doing the crazy, immature stuff.

You need someone stable: a trusted “ate” (if you are a female) or “kuya” (if you are a male) in the church, an older family member, your parents, or even your pastor. Look for someone with good biblical standards; you will need them to build your character.
