Word 4U Today

THE WORD, FOR YOU, TODAY (5) – THE LETTER OF THE LAW

THE WORD, FOR YOU, TODAY (5) – THE LETTER OF THE LAW

Psalm 119 is kind of incredible. It’s a really impressive acrostic poem (remember them?), and it constantly refers back to the words of God.

Every single thing that this Psalm says about God, or asks of Him, comes back to the Torah (the old Hebrew word used to refer to the first five books of the Bible).

It’s veeeeerrrryyy obvious that this particular writer is extremely focused on it; he’s clearly read it a lot, and he’s constantly coming back to it. All of the stuff that the writer knows about who God is comes from his knowledge of the Torah.

There’s something we could (and should) learn from that.

We 21st Century Christians always seem to stress that it’s the relationship with God that’s the important thing.

And that’s true.

However, it’s possible that we’ve lost touch with the fact that some of that relationship is built through following the Bible’s instruction.

We can get to know a ton about God’s personality through the pointers that He gives us, through The Word, on how to live. When we follow God’s leading into the kind of life He wants us to live, we get to know Him better. Psalm 119 proves it.

When we read the Bible to see where He’s leading and how He wants us to get there, we open ourselves up to being pulled a whole lot closer to Him.

WHAT NOW?

If you’re not doing it already, why not dedicate today to God as a “Sabbath” holy day? Decide to rest and make real time to dig into His written word (start with Exodus 20:8-11). Once you see where He’s leading you, go out and do it. Doing so can also lead you to serve others!

Verse of the Day:

‘Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them.’ Psalm 119:140 NIV
