The Finger of God (2)

The Finger of God (2)

‘It’s all in the flick of the wrist,’ Pharaoh’s magician explained. ‘You hide the snake up your sleeve, you create a distraction and… whoopdedoo, you’ve ‘changed’ the piece of wood into a snake. Moses has you conned, Your Majesty.’ And so Moses would return to Pharaoh’s court again and again, each sign greater than the previous, each one imitated or replicated by the illusionists.

But before long, the signs couldn’t be reproduced by Pharaoh’s magic circle any more. Until one dark night came the screams. This plague was for real. Every firstborn boy’s mouth seemed to have been quieted by death. This was no illusion. The only possible explanation was God.

‘The finger of God!’ they cried out in fear.

The Passover story teaches us that God’s finger will claim back what is rightfully His.

Pharaoh was given many chances. But in the end God had to act dramatically. It’s not a formula, but we can take on a lesson for us today: don’t ignore the will of God.

The Psalmist wrote, ‘Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary’ (Psalms 77:13 NKJV). Then he added, ‘Thy way is in the sea, and Thy path in the great waters…’ (Psalms 77:19 KJV). The sanctuary – the safe place where we learn – or the storm – the rough place where we learn by having the edges taken off us – God will bring you, the easy way or the hard way.

What Now?

–Today, we’re giving a musical recommendation: “I Said Yeah” by Jahaziel –https://soundcloud.com/rapzilla/i-said-yeah-feat-ram1 (or just Google it). God persists after you with His ‘Yes’ to you, what are you saying to Him today?

‘The magicians said to Pharaoh, “this is the finger of God”’ Exodus 8:19 NIV
