Word 4U Today

THANK GOD?

THANK GOD?

If you’re chatting with a good friend, there’s an ease in your conversation because you know who you’re talking to. You know the person that’s taking in your words. You feel safe that what you say won’t be taken the wrong way.

Talking to God is sometimes less easy when you’re first getting to know Him because it can feel like talking to a blank canvas (maybe you remember that, or you’re going through it now).

Who is He?

What does He want to hear?

What does He want me to say?

Or even if He seems to have gone quiet with you, or was never ’loud’ – how do you get into a place where you can even begin to learn to hear His voice?

This is why so many of Christianity’s traditional prayers start with thanks. When we start our prayers with gratefulness we are doing what’s right (giving God His due for everything He’s given) and we’re starting to get a sense of the person we’re talking to: the Giver of all good gifts.

When we’re thanking Him, we’re starting to learn His character.

Ann Voskamp says, “Giving thanks in all things is how to pray continually [1 Thessalonians 5:17-18]… This is the way to do God’s will for you right now. Thanks to God is what calms the wild heart.” So, praise Him! Lots! Then listen…

What now?

Phew. Big topic. Go treat yourself to a cup of coffee and maybe a piece of creamy ensaymada. And while you’re at it, consider this: what if quietly thanking God throughout the day could be the way of getting to know Him that you’ve been looking for?

Verse of the Day:

‘…His sheep follow him because they know his voice.’ John 10:4 NIV
