Word 4U Today

Second Service

Second Service

What with the way He could turn a few sardines into a banquet for thousands, He should’ve been the next celebrity chef! Or that thing with raising the dead – He should’ve at least got himself a TV series. Oh, for a good agent, eh Jesus?! It’s almost as if you were more interested in the people you were helping rather than making a name for yourself.

Aaaaand the coin drops. Jesus doesn’t just think it is a good idea to serve, He expects it: ‘When you have done all things which you are commanded, say, “We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do”’ (Luke 17:10 NKJ).

‘Our duty’ – key words. It isn’t always easy to decide every morning to keep in God’s will. But as you stop dragging your feet to follow God, the obedience will pay off.

Being ready to say ‘yes’ to that nudge He’ll give you when it’s time to avoid that temptation/speak to that person/stop skipping W4U readings/whatever He wants from us, it gets easier. Jesus showed us what this looks like- He didn’t come to earth to make a fortune and retire on some tropical island while drinking juice from coconuts –

‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served.

But to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.’ (Mark 9:45)

So, here’s a challenge: There’s some *real* joy in serving God, but you’ll need to put the willpower in. Up for it?

What Now?

Prayer time. check your plans for today, and look for opportunities to serve someone. Ask Jesus to open up opportunities, and step up to it.

Verse of the Day:

‘I desire to do your will, my God.’ Psalms 40:8 NIV
