Word 4U Today

‘Look out for number one.’ That’s just how life goes, right? Or – how about we remind ourselves that Jesus ‘didn’t make it easy for himself by avoiding people’s troubles, but waded right in and helped out.’ (Romans 15:3 TM). Read up. You won’t find a shred of selfishness in Him.

Ivan O. Miller said,

‘Humility is such a frail and delicate thing that he who dares to think that he has it, proves by that single thought that he has it not.’

So, the challenge that he (and today’s verse) sets out is: how much can you forget about yourself so that you can put others first? Sound a bit harsh? Inhuman?

Perhaps it’s a way to enjoy life without obsessing over yourself. When you succeed and the accolades start coming your way, enjoy them briefly, and then pass them on to the true source of all your accomplishments.

Instead of focusing on gaining glory for yourself, turn it around and do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.’

Start small – one day, we might be able to say that ‘whatever’ we do is done for God, if we kick off with something small – today.

What Now?

Pride brought Satan down. It’ll burn you to the ground too if you let it. If you need to get out of your own head this morning, if you’re feeling a bit claustrophobic up there, try doing something today just purely for the sake of Jesus. See if your life doesn’t feel a bit more spacious afterwards.

‘…do it all in the name of the Lord…’  Colossians 3:17 NIV
