Word 4U Today

Remember playing with magnets as a kid? Fun, right? And that moment that you first realized that they don’t stick to soda cans?

That was pretty confusing. And kind of sad (One person from our W4U HQ team actually took that pretty hard…). But the only way to find out what sticks is by trying. By putting that magnet out there and seeing what it attracts.

Humans are kinda similar. The only way to discover our gifts is to follow our natural (read: ‘God-built’) inclinations, try stuff out, and see what works.

The things that stick with us are likely to be the things we’re made to do.

It’s all about exploring every opportunity by praying first, and then, if God gives you the “go-ahead”, wholeheartedly try whatever-it-is.

Your gifts will start to make themselves known through the effort you put into those things.

But… uhhh, hang on. What if you try something you’re embarrassingly bad at? If you try something you really don’t enjoy? What if you‘fail’ at something?

Well, an important part of life is finding out the things that you dislike, or that perhaps just aren’t for you.

Even better, sometimes a-face-on-the-ground-first-embarrassing-stumble where you honestly tried that something new can be a good opportunity to learn to laugh (kindly) with yourself, and grow your patience and humility.

And, if it gets frustrating, God is always there to guide you through. He always has your back.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. For each of the Spirit-given gifts mentioned, jot down a quick note of an experience of yours that shows signs of whether or not (and the not’s are just as valuable) you may have that gift. If it helps, talk it through with someone.

Voice of the Day:

‘There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit…’ 1 Corinthians 12:4 NIV
