Word 4U Today

We know. You have rights, man. You deserve to be happy. And live freely. (And sarcasm aside, we do actually hope you know that!)

But, sometimes, we can cling to our ‘rights’ until our fingers turn blue and we’re kicking and climbing on others to keep hold of what we think we’re entitled to. That ain’t Jesus-like.

Think about it. Then check out Philippians 2:1-11. That’s right. Jesus “had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of Himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all.

When the time came, He set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave…”

He took on the status of a slave. A slave. The King of the universe didn’t see Himself as too entitled to anything to step right down onto this messy, ignorant earth.

And He didn’t step down onto a comfy, shiny, gold throne; He placed Himself in a rough old animal trough. More than that – He died the death of a criminal (yup, crucifixion was for criminals back then). He definitely didn’t deserve that.

And that’s our example to follow. If stuff that we don’t deserve comes our way (and we’re guessing it probably will, at some point), Jesus shows that it’s our job to deal with it gracefully.

We’re called to find the balance between living healthy lives for ourselves, and putting others (appropriately) first. Tricky, but it’s definitely doable. That’s the way that Jesus lived.

Hold some doors open today. See how many people you can allow to go through them first, before you do. Tweet us at @PositivelyPinoy if you think you’ve broken some sort of door-holding record. (Also, if you’re at all concerned you’re being taken advantage of, chat to someone older & wiser, even if just to check. Stay safe; we like you :))
