Grow Up (and keep growing…)

Grow Up (and keep growing…)

The end of Hebrews 5, and the beginning of chapter 6, is a bit of a smack-down. The writer of that letter is saying to his readers “you should really be further on in your understanding of God by now”. The Message version of the Bible puts it quite bluntly… “Grow up in Christ”, it says. .

Actually… that’s pretty good advice to all of us.  Read the first three verses of Hebrews 6. The mystery-person that wrote Hebrews clearly really values digging into the meaty principles of following Jesus.

Let’s face it, which one of us knows everything there is to know about this Christian life, and about God? Yeah. No hands raised there.

There’s just so much to learn about God, and how to live for Him,

that we can never, ever say that we’re done with learning.

Part of being a Christian is being open to absorbing new truths. That’s why we have sermons in Church. That’s why you’re reading these Bible notes. Yeah, that’s why there’s a Bible to read in the first place.

God is simply challenging us to go deeper into our knowledge of Him. No matter how much you already know, or don’t know, there is so much for Him to reveal. And, when you devote the time to study Him, and ask Him to teach you, He will start to build you up in your knowledge of Him.

What Now?

Do some research. What’s one thing that you’ve always wondered about (or just never understood about) Jesus/The Bible/Christianity/everything? Go and find out about it. Ask someone;  google it; read a book about it. Reflect on it.

‘…You need someone to teach you…’  Hebrews 5:12 NIV
