Word 4U Today

Dr Joseph Parker  told his theology students,

‘Preach to the suffering and you will never lack a congregation.

There is a broken heart in every pew.’

Have you ever heard a preacher give a message about suffering that ‘moved your gut’?

Some of the most powerful preaching we’ve come across has been when the preacher was the most connected to the hurt in the world. And some of the least when the preacher just… wasn’t.

Jesus gets our brokenness.

He went looking for the loser, the lost, the lonely – the lowest of the low.

He was comfortable around them. He served them naturally, without a ‘mask’ to hide behind. Serving these people did a lot for them. Just like you can make a real difference to those near you.

Newsflash, though: giving’s not a one-way street. God’s pretty interested in what’s good for you, and now apparently a survey across 44 major universities suggests that giving protects your overall health twice as much as aspirin does against heart disease! (Not that that’s *why* you should give, but it’s nice to know that God’s planned it to be good for you too…)

What Now?

Got the message over these last 3 days? Today, have this ear worm to move your gut toward serving…

Get up, offer that thin, and give ‘til you feel better. Get up, offer that thing, try to release that pressure…

‘This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do…’   Hebrews 4:15 NLT
