Diligence Pays Off

God wants you to do until it is completed, irrespective of the difficulties and frustrations.

Filipino culture is etched with a NINGAS KUGON attitude. We lose fire and enthusiasm rather easily once faced with hardships and trials. There were two frogs that fell into a bucket of cream and tried very hard to get out, but each time they slipped back again.  One said, “We’ll never get out of here”, gave up and drowned. The other frog persevered with kicking until suddenly, he felt something hard beneath his feet and discovered that his kicking turned the cream into butter. He hopped on top of it and was able to leap out to safety.

Diligence may not play a big part in today’s world but it plays a big part in the Bible (Hebrews 6:11-12.) Those who have done great exploits for God have been men and women of persistence and perseverance. One of the greatest examples is the Apostle Paul.

“We are hard pressed on every side but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).

He kept going when others would have simply given up! Being locked up for two years, persevering was the last thing on my mind. It was a lot easier to just give up and say there’s no way out. But I persevered and diligently looked forward to the dancing that came after the mourning , the joy that overturned all my sorrows. Fight the good fight, press on and look forward. (2 Timothy 4:7)

Sir Winston Churchill, though failing and feeble, stood up to address university students and said: “I have just one thing to say to you: Never give up. Never, ever, ever give up!” He sat down to a standing ovation.
