Word 4U Today

It turns out cars don’t work so well without full fuel tanks. (Really, now?!) Sometimes God asks us to do things that really stretch and challenge us, but He always provides fuel for the task.

The first Christians were tasked with something quite huge:

‘Go into all the world, preach the gospel, make disciples of all nations’

(Matthew 28:19)

But while Jesus was still physically with His disciples He said, “I will not abandon you like orphans, I will send another: the Comforter, the Counsellor, He will remind you of everything I said and did, His name is the Holy Spirit.’

The Holy Spirit is available to all people.

He is a source of power, of peace, of God’s presence, of authority, confidence, faith. He is the greatest counsellor, the best encourager, the most gracious comforter. If you’re ever in a difficult situation He gives you the words to say. More than this, like a dynamo (remember those electricity-producing things from science class?), the Holy Spirit doesn’t just give us that first moment of belief that allowed us to see Jesus, but He works through us, on and on, giving us the motion to keep believing, even when times get tough.

The Holy Spirit is the dynamic power of God available to all people who simply say,

‘God come and fill me!’

What Now?

At the end of our prayers we often say AMEN. This word is more than a religious full stop. It’s one of the oldest words in human language, and literally means ‘let it be’, ‘I agree’, or my favourite, ‘bring it on!’ So today pray, ‘God fill me with your Holy Spirit. Bring it on!’

‘… they were all filled with the Holy Spirit’ Acts 4:31 NKJ
